Give me a sentence that would always be true in good times or bad. Allegedly this is the request that produced the phrase “this too, shall pass”.
Origins aside, what a power phrase. Stoic in nature. Brutal in its honestly. Flat out depressing at the right moment. But comforting in others.
Often times in my career I’ve been thrust into high stress situations. Anyone reading this certainly has had the experience. Factor upon factor compounding and chipping away at your resolve and confidence. Perhaps you’ve considered throwing in the towel and running away.
When I’m wrapped up into a situation this deeply and the end is not in sight, I have to pause and remind myself: “This too, shall pass. NOTHING I have encountered before has ever put me in danger or ended my life. This too, shall pass”. And sure enough, eventually the layers of the problem peel away. Internal models start forming in my head. Solutions start springing to life. And all is well again.
But even then, this too shall pass and the whole cycle will start again.
