I’ve took a bit of a break from linkedin and word press just to kill off some stress. But, I figure it’s time to write a few posts and give this another shot.
I often refer to myself as an introvert playing an extrovert for money. I’ve had a few people comment on this over the years to the tune of: I never thought to put it that way. But, it seems to ring true for many folks.
What do I mean by this? Quite simply, if given the opportunity to keep my head down and work on things without interaction with people, you’d never see me again. But, I also have a knack for leadership and a passion for helping people develop theirselves. I’m like the “there’s two wolfs inside you” example but I’m pretty sure it’s three wolves and they are howling at a full moon. And they’re on a tshirt.
End of the day, especially when having a people heavy day, I’m exhausted and desperately want to be alone. Previously is dive into books, then video games. Now a-days the youngins keep me busy. Which is to say: I’m always damned tired.
Humor seems to be one of my coping mechanisms. I’ve mentioned before the concept of using humor with your teams. This might be why I’m big advocate of the concept. I’m covering my introverted tracks.
I’ll just wrap up this rambling with an old joke that I won’t try to quote a source on. If you know the origin let me know:
“How do you tell the difference in an introverted engineer and an extroverted engineer?
The extroverted engineer will stare at your shoes while talking to you. The introvert engineer will stare at his own shoes.
Pre-2020, I’d say “I’ll stare you in the eyes, for money” but now, “I’ll stare vaguely over your shoulder or at the ground near gwhere you are standing… for money”.
Night folks!

I’m going to have to contemplate that “introvert playing an extrovert”. I’ve always assumed I’m an extrovert, but looking back I’ve always had to pull back and be alone. It was reading(hours and hours of reading in willow trees) when I was younger. Now, I take work-from-home days to just not interact and focus. Interesting.

Ha, like I said “I’ve had a few people comment on this over the years to the tune of: I never thought to put it that way”. Gotcha!
Hope it brings some enlightenment. I can say for me, I 100% embodied the “fake it til you make it” concept for building courage and confidence. I think I even still have an old strengths and opportunities review from my days at Target pointing these things out. I think as time goes on it’s less pretend extrovert and more actually being extroverted in ways I wasn’t before. Money still helps that though!
